It’s Grant Season!
Every winter I sit for days and days and days and type up statements of purpose and paragraphs outlining my research plans in the hopes that, come spring, I will receive just one (maybe two) email(s) promising me a few dollars to support my studies in Lithuania for the summer.
And while waiting is nerve-wracking, it usually (knock wood) pays off – and it did again this year when I won a Pre-Dissertation Grant from Indiana Univeristy for 6-8 weeks in Lithuania, and a Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) grant from the US Department of Education to study advanced Lithaunian for 6 weeks abroad(don’t do the math, my summer isn’t long enough!).
So, even though I was actually secretly hoping that maybe everyone would reject me and I could have an excuse to stay in DC with my husband, (!) I was lucky (and maybe also a little cursed) to be able to have two opportunities to return to the Land of Rain!
Stay tuned for more summer adventures! (Hopefully I will actually master the 172 endings of Lithuania participles… but probably not.)
